As we come to the end of a very tumultous year, I am reflecting on all the challenges and triumphs I had this year. And yet again, I am so happy that I chose to become a naturopathic doctor! Working with my patients as they face all manner of health challenges is a gift they share with me, one which I truly appreciate. The path to better health is never a linear one, unfortunately. Setbacks and detours can occur at any time which can be disheartening and discouraging. I am here for both the ebbs and flows of each patient's healing journey. Many patients return after months or years, whenever they are ready to continue, or when new issues arise. This continuity of care means I am familiar with their history, and we can move immediately to the issue of the moment. Seeing my patients find relief from physical pain, mental anguish and chronic health-based limitations on their potential is my reason for doing the work I do.

I am also reflecting on how Healing Is Always Possible. In my work as a clinic supervisor for the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine at their external clinic at the Vancouver Women's Health Collective, located in the heart of the Downtown East Side, I see women and non-binary people from all circumstances, many with histories of trauma and disadvantage, achieve better health despite many odds stacked against them. Our student clinicians provide a non-judgmental, supportive and caring atmosphere, hands on treatments (which seem to be key to recovery), and free supplements donated by generous companies for folks that really need the help. Seeing healing happen under the most challenging of circumstances gives me the hope and faith in our medicine to sustain me. I am deeply grateful for the opportunities my patients offer me.

I wish you all the best for 2026. May the coming year be one of healing for people, nations and the planet.
